Michael Chernow, Restaurateur, Owner of Seamore’s, Co-owner of the Meatball Shop explains how his restaurant crew is like his family and because of that, he provides nontraditional benefits including Aflac. Learn more about how we work with small businesses: http://afl.ac/4nqIi3.#aflactorrance #aflacteamla

Aflac is primarily designed to help you with the Have-To expenses when someone get sick (cancer, heart attack, stroke, etc) severely injured (broken legs, broken arm, severe cut, etc) outside of the workplace and not able to work, and knowing that Michael has made these benefits available it allows them the peace of mind to knowing they can just focus on getting better and not have to worry if the rent, utilities are going to be paid.

Michale is a very smart business man, he knows that offering these benefits do not cost him a penny to just offer benefits to his employee but I'm sure he is a policy holder as well (his only expense) but being the business man that he is if one person get sick or injured I know that the business must keep running with or without said employee.

It's quite apparent that Michael cares very much about his employees and with the benefits package fortified with Aflac, Medical (robust package) gives him the peace of mind knowing they are protected.

New York native Michael Chernow got his start in the restaurant business at 13. Only a year later, he met a young Daniel Holzman, and the pair worked side by side as restaurant delivery boys. Though they went their separate ways, Chernow had planted the seed of an idea: to open a restaurant together
Chernow transitioned from bike runs to drink slinging at New York City nightclub Life. He learned quickly and moved up the ranks to become the youngest bartender on staff in just two years, alternating his seasons between Life and The Tavern in the Hamptons. Next, he signed on to launch Woo Lae Oak in the city and then took a position at the Los Angeles original in 2001. Returning to New York, Chernow opened Punch & Judy and then took a post behind the bar of Frank Prizanzano’s Frank on Second Avenue, where he worked for seven years and gained a large, loyal following.

At your Service

Let Aflac help make tax savings easy and give your employees the savings they deserve through Section 125 Cafeteria Plans and put all our services at your fingertips.

Aflac helps companies administer premium-only plans and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) provided by WageWorks®, a preferred partner of Aflac.

Increase Value Without Increasing Cost

With Aflac cafeteria plans, you can reduce your employees’ taxable income, thereby reducing your share of FICA and FUTA taxes. This could mean a savings for you and your employees. The administration of flexible spending account plans doesn’t have to be complicated. WageWorks can work with you to implement and assist with administration of a Flexible Spending Account plan at minimal cost.

Helping Employees Save Money is Simple

  1. Employees sign up for the Flexible Spending Account plan and estimate the amount of anticipated out-of-pocket medical or dependent care expenses for the year.
  2. Then, they have the corresponding amount deducted in equal installments from each paycheck.
  3. As employees incur medical or dependent care services, they submit paperwork (or use their takecare® Card, if eligible) and get reimbursed with their own tax-free dollars.

The Bottom Line

Not only do you enhance your employee benefit plan by making Aflac insurance policies available to your employees on a pre-tax basis, but you actually save money too. Extend your offering and savings with Unreimbursed Medical (URM) and Dependent Day Care (DDC) FSAs.

takecare® Card

Convenience and ease of use are essential to attaining high usage rates with your flexible spending account plan. The takecare® Card is a fast and easy way for participating employees to access Unreimbursed Medical (URM) funds at the point of purchase. It looks and works like a credit card, eliminating the need for your employees to use out-of-pocket dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental and prescription expenses. Your company benefits by reducing the administrative costs associated with managing a paper process and your employees benefit by accessing their URM funds directly. There is no need to wait for claims to be processed and funds to be reimbursed.
Employers offering Cafeteria Plans can amend their plan documents to reflect recent changes enacted under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The documents below are sample amendments covering transition and health Flexible Spending Account (FSA) carryover rule changes.
Employers can amend Section 125 cafeteria plans to provide a carryover of up to $500 of unused health FSA amounts into the next cafeteria plan year (immediately following the previous plan year only). The carryover can be used to pay or reimburse for health FSA medical expenses incurred during the entire plan year in which it is carried over. The carryover does not count against the annual $2,550 (indexed) salary reduction for the new year.
Plans that adopt the carryover provision are not permitted to provide a grace period with respect to health FSAs. For plan years beginning in 2013, the amendment can be adopted at any time on or before the last day of the plan year beginning in 2014. Plan participants must also be informed of the carryover provision. See IRS Notice 2013-71 for more information.

NEW STUDY

YOUR ODDS ARE FRIGHTENING

Hearing “you have cancer” from your doctor is something no one wants to experience at any point in life. But shockingly, half of all adults will get a cancer diagnosis, according to a new study from the British Journal of Cancer, which predicts that one out of every two U.K. adults born in 1960 will develop the disease during their lifetime.

Broken down by gender, the numbers slightly favor women, but only because more men smoke: Men born in 1960 have a lifetime cancer risk of 53.5 percent, while the risk is 47.5 percent for women. The study forecasts a rise in cancer rates; by contrast, only one in three U.K. residents born in 1930 were projected to get cancer. It’s scary news, but do the numbers translate across the pond here in America?
They line up pretty closely, says Len Lichtenfeld, M.D., deputy chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society, with one in two men and one in three women in the U.S. expected to be diagnosed with the big C.
“The numbers reflect a few things: First, people are living longer, and advancing age is a significant risk factor for cancer,” says Lichtenfeld. “Also, we’re diagnosing cancer at greater rates because of technological advances in screening, such as mammography for breast cancer and PSA tests for prostate cancer.”
Speaking of better diagnostic tools, this is the reason for some good news concerning cancer: While more people are receiving a cancer diagnosis, the death rates for the disease have been steadily going down.
“Since the early 1990s, cancer deaths have declined about 20 percent,” says Lichtenfeld.
And keep in mind that the stats, while startling, don’t take into account an individual’s lifestyle, which plays a role. Not using tobacco, being active, maintaining a healthy weight, and eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in processed food are all things that can keep your lifetime cancer risk lower than the numbers predict.

Why Aflac

What is Voluntary Insurance?

American Family Life Assurance Compnay

Simply put, voluntary or supplemental insurance plans help people protect their financial wellbeing in the event of a serious accident or illness. —Voluntary insurance offers a way to stay ahead of the medical and out-of-pocket expenses that major medical insurance does not cover and that add up quickly after an accidental injury or illness. From emergency treatment and transportation costs to receive care, or your everyday bills, voluntary insurance pays cash benefits directly to the policyholder (unless otherwise assigned), and the policyholder decides how or when to use the money.

Takes a quick look at four popular policies:

• Accident Insurance
• Cancer Insurance
• Hospital Indemnity Insurance
• Short-term Disability Insurance

To see a full list of available Aflac policies, visit: http://www.aflac.com/individuals/policies

Please watch this video.

Voluntary insurance works with major medical coverage to provide an essential safety net

Supplemental policies, like the ones offered by Aflac, work together with major medical insurance to help provide protection to policyholders. As health care costs continue to rise, these policies help provide an affordable extra layer of financial protection for your family. Unlike major medical insurance, these policies pay cash benefits directly to the policyholder (unless assigned otherwise) if they get sick or injured.

While no one anticipates the unexpected, more than 38.9 million medically consulted injuries occur in a year.

These injuries pose more than simply a health risk, but also a risk to financial security. Illness or medical bills contributed to 62.1% of bankruptcies in 2007, and threequarters of these debtors had medical insurance.

Often, having these policies can save individuals and their families from out-of-pocket costs, unexpected debt and even bankruptcy — helping them to focus on getting better and getting back to work.

 More Relevant Than Ever

Before Health care reform and increasing health care costs continue to drive demand for voluntary benefits — and for good reason. As the cost of health care rises, employees are shouldering both additional health care costs and decision-making responsibility. Individuals and their families also face more decisions as health care becomes more consumer-driven, and new options become available to them through health care reform.

Even with a comprehensive major medical plan, the out-of-pocket costs (both medical and non-medical related) can be substantial. In fact, 44% of workers would have to use a credit card or borrow from friends or family to pay for out-of-pocket expenses associated with a serious illness or accident.

For many, voluntary benefits help solve a number of concerns and challenges that are surfacing during this time of health care and financial insecurity. Unlike major medical insurance, these supplemental policies pay cash benefits directly to the policyholder.

Aflac Named to Ethisphere's World's Most Ethical Companies List

Aflac has been named a World's Most Ethical Company by the Ethisphere Institute for a 10th consecutive year.

COLUMBUS, Ga., March 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Aflac, the leader of voluntary insurance sales at the worksite in the United States, announced today it has been named to the Ethisphere Institute's 2016 World's Most Ethical Companies list. This marks 10 consecutive years that Aflac has appeared on this prestigious list, making them the sole insurance company to have appeared on the list every year since its inception. All told, 131 companies made the list this year, eight of which are 10-time recipients, including Aflac.
"Appearing on Ethisphere's list of the World's Most Ethical Companies for an amazing 10 consecutive years is an honor and, in today's climate, a welcomed validation of our business practices," Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos said. "Research continues to show that consumers and investors have a heightened expectation for companies to behave ethically and responsibly, so we are proud to receive this award from Ethisphere, a top authority in the field of corporate ethics."
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Ethisphere and the World's Most Ethical Companies designation, which, according to Ethisphere, recognizes companies that align principle with action, work tirelessly to make trust part of their corporate DNA and, in doing so, shape future industry standards by introducing tomorrow's best practices today.
"Operating in an industry where trust is everything, Aflac has a longstanding history of transparency and leadership in governance practices that has earned them that trust," explained Ethisphere's Chief Executive Officer Timothy Erblich. "Their unwavering commitment to the communities in which they operate around the globe and their values-based leadership approach are only a few of the reasons they have made the list since its inception, 10 years running. Congratulations to everyone at Aflac for being recognized as a 2016 World's Most Ethical Company."
The World's Most Ethical Company assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Quotient™ (EQ) framework developed over years of research and vetted and refined by the expert advice from Ethisphere's World's Most Ethical Company Methodology Advisory Panel. The EQ offers a quantitative way to assess a company's performance in an objective, consistent and standardized way. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies, rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.
The scores provided to all companies that participate in the process are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent); corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent); culture of ethics (20 percent); governance (15 percent); and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent). Visit http://worldsmostethicalcompanies.ethisphere.com/honorees for a complete list of this year's honorees.
Best practices and insights from the 2016 honorees will be released in the form of a whitepaper and infographics over the next few months (download the 2015 insights). Organizations interested in how they compare to the World's Most Ethical Companies are invited to participate in the Ethics Quotient.

Heart Attacks, Accidents

American Family Life Assurance Company (Aflac), is among the most respected insurance companies in the US. It was started by three brothers: Paul, John and Bill Amos in 1955. Aflac very quickly became popular and sold over 6,400 policies and accumulated more than $380,000 in assets in its first year of doing business. Aflac has a wide variety of health and accident insurance policies to meet the needs of almost every person and employer alike. As of 2003, over 98% of all Aflac plans sold in the US were issued through payroll deduction, a great convenience to the customer making the insurance firm a frontrunner in using that type of policy distribution approach.

As Aflac's motto states they will make cash payments to their clients when they get hurt and are unable to work. To this end, they offer many types of insurance packages for business owners, employers and individuals covering:
  • Accident/Disability
  • Cancer/Specified Disease
  • Hospital Intensive Care
  • Specific Health Event
  • Vision
  • Dental
  • Critical Care and Recovery
  • Long-term Care
  • Hospital Confinement/Sickness Indemnity
  • Medicare Supplement
  • Short-term Disability
  • Life Insurance
  • Child Life Insurance
Even though many company execs who monitor the positive characteristics of insurance coverage have privately acknowledged that customer service can be somewhat spotty, which seems to fall in line with the insurance coverage in the marketplace, many clients have related very positive experiences with customer service reps and sales consultants.
Some positive points that should be considered when looking at Aflac insurance plans are:
  • Portability
  • They pay you directly
  • A wide variety of plan packages
  • Coverage for some preventive care
  • Simple to complete claim forms
Also available from the company are packages covering dependent day-care, un-reimbursed medical expenses, and portable flexible spending accounts. The company also provides human resources services for COBRA and HIPAA management.
The company's network marketing sales structure has made it among the most prosperous in the country. Even though sales consultants earn lower commissions on average than other insurance companies they have created a very profitable business model.
It's simple to get coverage from Aflac. You simply need to request a quote from them and then meet with a policy consultant to discuss your particular needs. In general, Aflac has proven to be a trusted and reliable supplemental insurance company that offers a wide variety of insurance products at reasonable rates.

3 powerful reasons for businesses to embrace a good cause - Aflac Blog

October 2015

Giving is more than an altruistic act of kindness. Embracing a good cause can have a powerful impact on society and a positive impact on a company’s bottom line, allowing the company to make a sustainable difference. Here are three powerful benefits of embracing a good cause:

  1. Cause wins consumers’ hearts. Having a socially responsible cause can actually make the difference between making a sale and being passed over for the competition. Hands down, the majority of global consumers (90 percent) are likely to switch brands to one associated with a good cause, given comparable price and quality, and 63 percent bought a product associated with a cause over the last 12 months.1

  1. Cause builds a premium for your product or service. Embracing a good cause can make a difference in the margin consumers are willing to pay for your product or service. More than half of global consumers (55 percent) said they would be willing to reward companies that give back to society by actually paying more for their goods and services.2

  1. Cause boosts your recruitment strategy. 57 percent of consumers say they’d like to work for a company that actively supports a good cause. And a full 48 percent say they do not want to work for a company that does not actively support a good cause.3
